Waltham Pocket Watches are readily available and relatively inexpensive, even for a working model in good condition, so they are a great watch to start a collection.
The American Waltham Watch Company was the first company to mass produce watches in the USA. The company was started in Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1851 as the American Horologue Company and then went through various name changes. In 1854 when its new factory was built in Waltham, Massachusetts and despite more name changes the watches started to bear the name Waltham somewhere on its movement.
Waltham finally ceased manufacturing in 1957, but in its time it had made more than 35 million watches. Many of the watches were intended for the mass market so were low to medium quality, although Waltham also produced some excellent watches.
Waltham Pocket Watches are readily available and relatively inexpensive, even for a working model in good condition, so they are a great watch to start a collection. In fact, many collectors specialise only in this watch.
